Cinephilers is for keeping track of what you watch and talking about it with people who care as much as you do. Almost nothing needs a rule. The list below is the short version of what will get something removed, and it exists mainly so that if we ever do remove something, you can see why.
Argue about the film, not the person
Disagreeing with a review is the whole point of a review. Telling someone they are an idiot for writing it is not. You can think a film is the best thing ever made and someone else can think it is unwatchable, and both of you can say so.
What is not allowed: abuse, threats, or going after someone repeatedly. Nothing that attacks people for who they are — race, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability. That one has no version we will argue about.
Mark your spoilers
There is a spoiler toggle on every review. Use it and the text stays blurred until someone taps it. Spoiling a twist in a review with the toggle off, or in a comment where there is nowhere to hide it, ruins something for a stranger that cannot be given back.
Rate what you have actually seen
Scores here come from members, and once a title has five of them the community score is what everyone sees. That only works if the ratings are real. Review-bombing a film over something that is not the film, or rating a pile of titles you have never watched to move numbers around, breaks the one number this site is built on.
Your profile picture is yours
Use a photo you took, art you made, or something you are allowed to use. Nothing explicit, nothing hateful, and not a picture of someone else passed off as you. Anyone can report a profile picture from the menu on that person's page.
No spam, no selling
Reviews and lists are not advertising space. No affiliate links, no promoting your own thing in other people's threads, no automated posting. Recommending a film you loved is not spam. Recommending it forty times is.
One account, and don't dodge
Don't make extra accounts to inflate a score, get around someone who blocked you, or come back from a suspension. If you have been suspended and you think it was wrong, write to us — that works, and it is the only thing that does.
If something goes wrong
You can block anyone from the menu on their profile. It removes any follow between you in both directions and stops them commenting on or liking your reviews. They are not told.
You can report a review, a comment, or a profile picture. Reports come to us, not to the person you reported.
What we do about it
Usually nothing, because usually nothing is wrong. When something is:
- A review is hidden rather than deleted, so it can be put back if we got it wrong.
- A comment or a profile picture is removed, and that cannot be undone.
- An account can be suspended for a week, a month, or for good. You are told the reason.
Every removal and every suspension is logged with who did it and when. If you think a decision was wrong, reply to the email or write to support@cinephilers.app and say why. A person reads it.
